Westin
Westin is a happy child who has never met a stranger. He is very social and has a silly and playful personality. Westin always has a smile on his face. He enjoys playing with toys that have lots of lights, sound, and movement. Westin is not fearful of animals and he loves dogs. Westin is very affectionate and he easily finds a friend in people.
Westin has mastered walking and he can walk without assistance, although his left side is still weak. He is very physically active, but in the future he may require additional equipment to help him walk. Westin receives speech, occupational, and physical therapy.
Westin also has visual problems. Westin had Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) when born and he has had two laser eye surgeries for this. Westin has special prescription glasses as he has a great deal of difficulty seeing objects up close. Even with his glasses, Westin holds all objects very close to his face, but Westin still enjoys cartoons with singing and dancing.
Westin is working very hard on maintaining his health with his current conditions. He is learning how to speak, but his vocabulary is very limited at this time. Westin continues to make great progress.
Desired Family Profile
Westin needs a family who is familiar with all of the medical treatments he will require in order to provide the appropriate care. Westin also needs a family who is patient and will devote lots of time and energy into helping him develop to his full potential. Westin will do well in a home with either no other children or older children who do not require as much specialized care. Westin needs a family who will love and nurture him. It will be important for his family to be an advocate for him in the educational and medical community. Westin will require life-long care and it is very important that his family be there for him every step of the way.
