Post Adopt Services

Covenant Kids believes that adoption is a complex, life-altering event. Many of the children adopted through Covenant Kids have experienced abuse and neglect, separation from siblings, and multiple placements prior to meeting their adoptive family which will lead to challenges for the adoptive family long after the adoption has been consummated. Our experience has taught us that adoptive parents, adoptees and birthparents may need support throughout their adoption journey. Therefore, as part of our continued commitment to ministry to the clients and former clients we are privileged to serve, Covenant Kids provides post adoption services.  These services are offered to:

  • Families who have adopted children through Covenant Kids;
  • Former youth who were adopted by a Covenant Kids family; and
  • Birth mothers who have placed their child for adoption through Covenant Kids.
Some of the challenges faced by adoptive parents, adoptees or birth parents that lead them to seek post adopt services include:

  • Adjustment to the adoption;
  • Grief and loss issues;
  • Manifestations of abuse or neglect ;
  • Coping with mental health issues;
  • Behavioral challenges exhibited by children; and
  • Learning disabilities, developmental delays and academic issues.
Our casework, planning and supportive post adopt services for current and former Covenant Kids clients touched by adoption include:

  • Crisis Intervention.
  • Referrals for mental health and behavioral issues for birth parents and adoptive parents. • Individualized one-on-one parent coaching/training offered by highly skilled clinical staff to assist adoptive parents in equipping their family with the skills they need to overcome the obstacles presented with their children’s behavioral displays.
  • Ongoing monthly training regarding common issues faced by adoption families in a group setting that is conveniently located in large population centers.
  • A bi-weekly electronic newsletter that provides families who have adopted through Covenant Kids relevant information regarding adoption training opportunities in the community and updates regarding newsworthy information that impacts adoption families.
  • Promotion and fostering of healthy relationships between adoption families through opportunities for families to interact at Covenant Kids sponsored social events, including an annual Texas Ranger’s Game night in the summer, and our annual family Christmas party in December each year.
  • Ongoing support for family encountered adoption subsidy issues.
  • Supporting adoptive families, as is appropriate, in maintaining contact with families of origin including assisting in making arrangements for visits.
  • Referrals for respite.
  • Advocacy with the educational system.
  • Mentoring program for adoptive parents and birth parents.
